The Canadian
Kiger Mustang Registry

The Canadian Kiger Mustang Registry (CKMR) was established in 2003 to preserve and promote the Kiger breed. Using such methods as DNA parent verification and responsible breeding practices, to name but a few, the CKMR strives to maintain the purity of the Kiger as a breed. The dedication and commitment of the CKMR will aid in the preservation of this unique breed for future generations to learn and enjoy.

This unique breed discovered in the foothills of the Steens Mountain, started a new passion for people across North America. The Kiger breed literally took the horse world by surprise and in the last thirty years since it’s discovery has redefined the meaning of search for that special equine bond. This breed has been referred to as unique, special and quick to learn, but it is their “thinkability” and willingness to learn that sets them apart from other breeds.

The CKMR offers a variety of programs for all ages and riding abilities. Our programs are designed to benefit everyone from the experienced breeder to the pet owner regardless of age or riding ability. We also offer programs that promote the Kiger breed in harness as well as in hand and are proud to present our newest program, the Executive Breeders Award. We also offer a Junior Kiger Club for those 17 yrs and under regardless of horse ownership or membership status.

The Canadian Kiger Mustang Registry will be offering the first Kiger breed show in 2009. We will offer a variety of classes including in-hand, driving, side saddle, English and Western classes. They will be presented in an open class format and all breeds will be welcome to participate.
